Q: I had the honor of hosting Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year. While it was a lot of work, I enjoyed having my family members with me at my house. During the “aftermath” of the holiday, one of my teenagers was reheating some leftovers and apparently left it in the microwave too long. I found the mess today (mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, candied yams) stuck all over the microwave. Can you let me know the best way to remove the stuck on food?
A: Take a microwave safe container and fill it with water. Place the container in the microwave and set the time for 60 to 75 seconds. The water will heat up and create steam in the microwave softening the dried up “clued on” food so you can release it from the walls of your microwave.

Ask Eddie – Stain due to Nosebleeds

QUESTION:
Dear Eddie,

Actually, I do happen to have a question like that! My toddler is prone to nosebleeds, so I’ve gotten really good at getting blood out of fabrics. However, what’s the best and/or easiest way to get dried blood out of the carpet? I happen to have a little drop spot that I JUST found from a couple days ago. I haven’t tackled
it since it’s already dried, and I haven’t had a chance to look up a good way to do it without ruining the surrounding carpet. Thanks!

Dear Prone to Nosebleeds,

Sorry to hear about this unfortunate incidents. This is easier to deal with then you may think. Purchase some 3% hydrogen peroxide. Pour about 1 tbsp of the peroxide on the stain. Let it sit for 5 minutes and then “soak it up with a dry cloth. It should not make a difference whether the blood has dried or not. If the process does not get up the blood stain the first time, try it again allowing the peroxide to sit over night and then apply a damp cloth to the stain to lift the stain.

Dear Ask Eddie,

My friend had some punch spilled on her carpet this weekend. What do you recommend to remove stains that contain some red dye?

Dear Leah,

The red dye stains are some of the most pesky stains there are out there. And since we as parents can’t forbide koolaid from existence (and why would we), we just need a resolution to keep them at bay.

Now, this solution will work on most carpet or rug (nylon and polyester) not wool. If carpet or rug is made of wool, it is best to call a professional to care for this fiber.

You can use a solution of ammonia and hydrogen perioxide.

Depending on the size of the red dye stain, make a mixx 60/40 solution 60 hydrogen perioxide to 40 ammonia

*if a small spots or area, you can use ½ tsp to ammonia to 1 tsp peroxide

~Spray the solution on the carpet where the red dye stain appears.

~Completely cover the area with plastic wrap or a plastic bag

~Place a heavy object, such as book, so the plastic doesn’t come up.

~Leave it covered overnight.

~Next day check it the next day if the spot is gone or faded. Redo the process if the spot hasn’t been removed.
