Concrete Polishing – What is it?

Concrete Polishing has been around for almost a century. The method of polishing the concrete consists of a procedure of grinding the thinnest top layers of the concrete surface using different grit pads (also known as diamonds) to create a smooth appearance. Then the concrete surface is treated with a floor densifier (fancy name for hardener) giving the top layer of concrete. Then to finish the surface and make the floor resistant to scratches and abrasions, an application of a sealer is used. Polishing a floor is done by using the proper equipment and machines such as a HTC Superfloor 500 or 800 to create the smooth glass like appearance on the surface.

There are many benefits to polishing concrete instead of opting to install carpet or tile.

~Concrete is a eco friendly (or sustainable) floor because it comes from natural materials.

~Reduces waste and energy because you are using the existing flooring instead of having to install new.

~Long term maintenance on polished concrete is very low compared to other types of flooring.

~Easy to clean – just sweep regularly and mop with dish detergent and water to keep floor looking great.

~Highly reduces allergens in the air because the concrete doesn’t absorb pests such as dust, mites and fleas.

Kitchen Concrete Polishing

My husband, Peter, and I had seen polished concrete in our travels to Miami and other cities, so when we ’settled’ in Clearwater, we decided to check into it. Little did we realize at the time that concrete polishing is relatively new to most of West Central Florida. So it was a bit of a search to find a qualified, honest craftsmen to polish our concrete kitchen floor. We found Morr Services, Inc. from searching on Google, and boy, are we glad that we did! Once it was finished, my husband said, ‘The floor is amazing, amazing, amazing!’”. ~ Peter and Kathy
